Outcomes-Focused Telework for Managers and Supervisors
(Note: this session is only open to Commonwealth of PA employees)
Speaker: John Phillips
In the past, the productivity of Commonwealth employees was often measured by how busy they were, and not what they were accomplishing. A significant part of this was due to managers and supervisors literally relying on their senses to monitor their staff. In other words, if employees looked and sounded busy, then they must be doing their jobs. One of the silver linings of telework, is that this type of constant monitoring is no longer feasible. Therefore, satisfactory performance must now be measured based on what employees achieve, not merely on what they do.
Therefore, during this session we will discuss:
- The differences between activities, outputs and outcomes
- How to create outcomes-based performance standards
- How to instruct, provide feedback, praise and hold staff accountable during telework
